Winning and Loosing Just like any other character developed by a child, nature and nurture are significant factors in reading and writing habits.Research shows that attitude towards reading and writing cultivated early can largely affect the ability of children to express themselves through writing. In most cases, children’sfirst encounter with books is bedtime stories from their parents.My journey of reading and writing was a rollercoaster. A story of battles, some won others lost. The best memory I have of a book is reading andcomprehending the tale of The Three Little Pigs by Paul Galdone. I gained insight about wisdom from the choices made by the three pigs. It was among the first books I borrowed from our local library. For me, reading this book was similar to a hard-earned dollar. The significance of this novel was freedom. Moreover, it was the first book the librarian let me pick out for myself. The story was fascinating that I found myself acting it out alone. Reading and writing was never easy for me. The fear of coming across a new word traumatized me. My major worry was the inability to pronounce a new word especially in front of an audience. Writing was not easy either and even the competition for reading and writing in my class was high. The first time I was able to spell my name was the significant writing accomplishment mainly because I had to write it thrice before I got it right.
